She tries out products that are environmentally friendly.

“I have a soap on a rope, it smells fab, although I think I might need to cut off the rope as I keep catching it and flinging the soap around the shower cubicle 😂"

In the parcel @atlasandortus kindly sent me there was a shampoo bar (coconut and Shea bar) which I used on my hair AND body, this is brilliant, especially if you are going on holiday and want to reduce what you are taking. It smelled amazing. I was also sent a bamboo toothbrush, which I took away with me, instead of my electric brush. I have to say, it was brilliant, and some reusable face wipes. It doesn’t look like the bristles can be composted, but the handle certainly can. All their packaging is completely plastic free and compostable too”.

Motivating disabled people to dig

Amanda has a condition where she has a disability - living with a chronic condition and finds it difficult to garden. She cannot garden how she used to, but spends her pension adapting this space, and she makes an effort. She has raised beds, solid paths, safe steps, places to rest. I garden in small chunks, she does only do light duties. She-loves her garden, and the benefits are worthwhile.

Home-hacks to reduce buying cleaning supplies

Amanda goes the extra mile when it comes to buying only essential things that will add value to her life. Cutting down on plastic consumption can be made simple.

Following are her steps, as a substitute for essential oils. A cheaper alternative is to make your own lemon vinegar.

  • I fill a jar with white vinegar, then pop my citrus peels in (lemon, orange, lime).
  • Pop the jar in a dark cupboard for at least a few weeks, think my latest one has been steeping now for 6 weeks.
  • Strain the liquid (peels can go in the compost bin), then mix 50/50 with cooled boiled water, decant into your spray bottle (this one was from @thekindstoreuk).
