Pearl protectors are continuously striving to protect Sri Lankan marine environment by raising awareness about the beauty of marine ecosystems & fostering passionate individuals 🦈

Awareness through the minds of the youth

They focus on micro workshops around the island, which include practical sessions on building eco-bricks and microplastic identification while awareness sessions included were on reducing 'Single use Plastic' and Importance of protecting the marine environment.

Monthly beach clean ups

The team carries out beach clean up efforts mainly within the city of Colombo, mostly once a month, braving strong winds, heavy rains and the freezing temperatures to collect plastic bottles.

Some of the suggestions to mitigate the issue it to:

  • Introduce refill tubes with refilling machines at supermarkets
  • Collect back sold and used tubes for recycling or reuse
  • Introduce wood based tooth brushes
  • Collect back used toothbrushes with a customer incentive

You can start a pilot project in Sri Lanka since we are hell bent furious with your company for destroying our marine environment.

For 2019 the group are planning to feature a PET Bottle Christmas Tree to bring awareness to the community. 🎄

PPA - Pearl Protector Approved

The Pearl Protector Approved (PPA) Accredited Certification launched by the group is a national incentive towards restaurants and food vendors in reducing the use of 'Single use Plastic' and improving the sustainability of the environment.

The certification has three levels based on the restaurant/food vendors commitment, which are; >Euphotic Level (level1) >Disphotic Level (level 2) >Aphotic Level (level 3)

Under this program Ranbath, an organic food based restaurant/ catering service partnered up with them to promote zero use plastic to all home/ office deliveries.
